January 2014:
So there I sat, engulfed with despair, with only the memories of my dad to reflect upon. Although our vocations and interest differed greatly, during visits, the conversation would eventually gravitate toward automotive sports and vehicular adventures. His funeral now over, I needed a project to focus on and the healing process to start.
My ‘72 Triumph TR6, stored, asleep, craving a great awakening, eager to compete in the Williamsburg British Car show [April]! What better way to honor the memory of my dad, than to focus my efforts on vintage automotive motoring. The Moss Motoring Challenge was my motivation.
With a Moss Parts book in hand, I started troubleshooting and listing necessary parts to make my TR6 road worthy. FYI: My vintage British cars are not pristine show queens, but rather gobsmackingly groovy drivers that cruise to automotive events.
After multiple trips to Moss [in Petersburg] for parts and consultations with Moss experts—Matt, Mac, and Cindy—along with countless hours repairing [during a record cold winter], my TR6 emerged ready to discover the unique venues of the Moss Motoring Challenge. By years end, I may not have traveled to enough locations to win, but participation in the Challenge started a British automotive frenzy that overflowed to my ’73 MG Midget, ’77 MG Midget, and ’59 Morris.
2014 soon over, the TR6 and both Midgets are gone, adopted by a British Car hobbyist.
Now, as I reflect on and admire the Morris, I wonder what future adventures my British Car has in store.
Cheers to Moss Motors for an Inspirational Motivational Motoring Challenge!
Sincerely,
Daniel Watkins
