Lucas Diagnostic Aides

Back in the day—that day being sometime in the early 1980s—the Moss warehouse carried a series of informative cards that helped diagnose several systems made by Lucas.

It turns out a handful of these cards remained hidden for decades like nuggets of treasure. We’re glad to post them here for all to see.

Each of the following images are linked to PDF files designed to help troubleshoot Lucas products. Take a look and share them with your friends:

Lucas Test Card 1 – Diagnosing Ignition System

Lucas Test Card 2 – Diagnosing the Starting System

Lucas Test Card 3 – Diagnosing A.C. Charging Systems

Lucas Test Card 4 – Diagnosing D.C. Charging Systems

Lucas Test Card 5 – Diagnosing Opus Electronic Ignitions

Lucas Test Card 6 – Diagnosing Constant Energy Electronic Ignition

Constant Energy – tests end at “4” but there are references to tests 5 and 6 which I do not see in the pdf.
Basic stuff, but thanks for posting. (I have not checked the other pdfs for completeness BTW)

These are really cool and very systematic. Although I have a computer in my garage, I wouldn’t mind a set of laminated cards!

I am really getting old. Saw these and walked to my book shelf…Found not only the red and white ones, but also a set of them with black on green card stock from 1972.

If you could email (smlj48@gmail.com) or fax (678-390-9700) a copy of those cards it would be greatly appreciated.

Great tools in which I am most grateful….

Restoring several Alpines and a P1800 Volve Coupe and will make use of them on a regular basis.

    Thanks much,

I was an apprentice Lucas Auto Electrician in the1970s, and was thrilled to find these on your website as my originals are worn out. They were great for me to use when training new apprentices.
Nowadays companies would rather charge £50 just to connect up a laptop, than share the software / test methodology. Guess this openness contributed to Lucas going down hill !!
    Many Thanks, Gordon Campbell.

I agree with Sherwood McMormick, I would pay to have a copy of these. I tried printing them several different ways but they all come out tiny or partially in full size.

I purchased a set of these cards in the early 1980’s. I mislaid them over the years and have been searching for them recently. Thank you.
