Match Made in Heaven

My Dad came with me when I purchased my first car. It was a 1967 Mustang that I couldn’t wait to trade for my 1966 Spitfire. Later I sold the Spitfire to my Cousin John Riley and told him he had to whack the wheel caps with this rubber mallet that I provided to keep them tight. He did not heed my warning. The next conversation we had was about his wheel’s daring escape.

I never really got that sports car out of my mind. Fast forward to 1975 and I was back in the market! The 1976 TR6 was brand new and my timing for being alive was impeccable—in more ways than one. Lucky for me, I also happened to meet “the guy” at the same time and he too was a TR6 fan. A match made in heaven!

The car has been part of our lives and travels ever since. We took it out West on our first road trip. Memories were gathered and the car stayed with us throughout our 38 years of marriage. Life lesson: It is always good to find the car first and then fit the man to your car!

My TR6 has 80,000 miles, all original, garage kept, still have the second set of “original” Michelin red line tires (tubes). The TR6 never retired, you can see it in car shows and annual parades like the Anna Maria Island St. Patrick’s Day Parade as the coveted green car leads the way to the delight of Sean Murphy.

One more piece of advice: when your man and car unite, keep them both happy by giving them a special license plate.

All the best from the beach,
Kathy Caserta
