The Ken Miles MG Flying Shingle is one of the most important racecars ever built

Tony Garmey has served as both driver and custodian for some of the most important cars ever built from the MG Flying Shingle built by Ken Miles, the Kas Kastner and Pete Brock designed Triumph TR250K, the original Costin Lister and the Fantuzzi bodied Ferrari 250 GT. That these significant vehicles found their way into his care is no coincidence as the reputation forged by the affable Kiwi has grown over the years into an international following and customer base.

As a youngster in New Zealand, Tony was infatuated with motorsports and idolized Bruce McLaren and his trackside achievements. Starting early in racing, Garmey had talent behind the wheel and soon found himself racing Formula Fords in Europe before deciding to retire from modern racing and take advantage of his skills as a mechanic to work on some of the most storied cars in the world.

A longtime custodian for some of the most historic collections in North America, Garmey established Horizon Racing and Performance to provide bespoke high-level service, repair and restoration services for sports and racing cars.

An expert in custom fabrication and machining, his company has worked on everything from ground up concours level restorations to the reconstruction of famed period racers. Horizon also provides a full array of race preparation services including driver coaching, trackside support and arrive and drive transport packages.

As expected from a former colonial, Garmey has a long history with British sports cars and is widely acknowledged to develop the highest performance Triumph and MG engines in racing. From custom crankshafts and detailed machine work, Garmey has been able to get more out of these old engines than almost anybody. While sending a street car to Horizon Racing might seem like going to the Mayo Clinic for a common gold, Tony is happy to do regular service and maintenance on every variety of classic car.

An avid vintage and historic racer, Garmey is a frequent sight at world class events like the Monterey Motorsports Reunion, The Mitty and the Sonoma Historics in the 250K and other famous racecars. Despite his funny accent he is a joy to speak with and visitors of all stripes are urged to stop by the shop to see what Tony is working on.
